A Galactic Evening on La Palma, Canary Islands. The bright central bulge of the Milky Way emerges from the fading twilight over the Caldera de la Taburiente. The 10-km wide volcanic crater (with walls tower 2000m above the caldera floor) dominates a large part of the island. The caldera is originated some 2 million years ago with a massive shield volcano. On the top of the caldera (visible to the right), 2400m high, is the Roque de los Muchachos astronomical observatory.
