An all-sky fisheye view (fulldome) from the top of Cerro Armazones mountain (3064 m) in the Atacama Desert of Chile; the site chosen for the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), an optical/infrared telescope with a 39.3 m diameter primary mirror, the largest on Earth. It should be operational in the early 2020s. The fading light of dusk and the Zodiacal Light appears on the right (west). The Milky Way appears from southeast to west in the constellations Taurus, Orion and Gemini and the Southern part passing through Centaurus, the Southern Cross, and Carina is on the lower left. The Magellanic Clouds are near the bottom towards the south. The city of Antofagasta, 130 km away, is the small yellow light dome on top, while the other visible light dome (left, east) belongs to El Penon Mine, one of the largest gold mines in the world, located 110 km away.
