Meteor above Clouds - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
A meteor streaks the sky of La Palma, Canary Islands. Clouds appear in the Caldera de Taburiente, illuminated by towns at the shores of the island. The three upper stars of the Southern Cross are visible on the left. Star cluster NGC 3532 in Carina (also known as the Football Cluster) is on the right, at the horizon. The close-up view of the meteor shows a stumbling path which is the actual aerodynamic flight path of the meteoroid, due to the shape of the object as it spins and spirals through the atmosphere.
