The night sky above the World Heritage site of Meteora. The Milky Way emerges from light of the nearby town Kalabaka in Thessaly, Greece. Bright star Arcturus is in on the upper right and Saturn (in Virgo) is at lower right setting in the western horizon. Meteora is historic complex of lofty bizarre monasteries which are built on (or inside) giant natural sandstone rock pillars. Some are about a thousand years old. The name Meteora means "middle of the sky" or "in the heavens above". Appear here is the Monastery of Varlaam (left).
