The Night Sky Above Meteora   -  By: Babak A. Tafreshi

The night sky above the World Heritage site of Meteora. The Milky Way emerges from light of the nearby town Kalabaka in Thessaly, Greece, in late twilight. Bright star Antares, at the heart of the celestial Scorpion, is in the middle. Saturn and Spica (in Virgo) are brightest points on the right. Meteora is historic complex of lofty bizarre monasteries which are built on (or inside) giant natural sandstone rock pillars. Some are about a thousand years old. The name Meteora means "middle of the sky" or "in the heavens above". Appear here are the The Great Meteoron (right end) and the Varlaam (left) monasteries.
