The Milky Way over Meteora - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
The night sky above the World Heritage site of Meteora. The Milky Way emerges from light of the nearby town Kalabaka in Thessaly, Greece. Bright star Arcturus is in the middle right and the Big Dipper (the prominent figure of Ursa Major) is on the right. Meteora is historic complex of lofty bizarre monasteries which are built on (or inside) giant natural sandstone rock pillars. Some are about a thousand years old. The name Meteora means "middle of the sky" or "in the heavens above".
