The Small Magellanic Cloud photographed in a single-exposure image above the 3.6-meter New Technology Telescope (NTT) on La Silla Observatory in Chile, operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). The dwarf galaxy is one of the Milky Way's satellites, about 210,000 light-years away. To its upper left is the globular star cluster 47 Tucanae or just 47 Tuc (NGC 104), a jewel of the southern sky, that contains millions of stars and located in the Milky Way halo at distance of 13,000 light years. To the lower left of the galaxy is another bright and dense globular cluster of the Milky Way, NGC 362 in constellation Tucana and about 28,000 light years away.
