Flaring Satellite - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
The night sky photographed over the Cerro Paranal Observatory in the barren Atacama Desert. A satellite flares near the horizon, possibly an iridium flare caused by the reflective surfaces on the satellite antennas reflecting sunlight directly onto the Earth below and appearing as a brief, bright "flare", some bright enough to illuminate night landscape for a short time.
