Faint constellations Octans and Apus and the South Celestial Pole. In the southern sky the celestial pole is not marked by any bright star (unlike Polaris which marks the north celestial pole). The southern pole is about one degree from faint magnitude 5.5 star Sigma Octantis. it is barely visible to naked eye on a clear night. Sigma Octantis forms a notable trapezium-like asterism with its 3 naked eye neighboring stars which the main guide to find the pole.
