Comet ISON, Southern Cross, and Kilimanjaro - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
The southern Milky Way and the Large Magellanic Cloud (our neighboring dwarf galaxy) are photographed over Mount Kilimanjaro in a dark night of Amboseli National Park, southern Kenya. The Southern Cross is in the middle rising right above an elegantly curved acacia tree. The Carina Nebula is the red cloud at top. On the left the zodiacal light (sunlight reflection from dust in the solar System) appears at the beginning of dawn. Look carefully in the light and you will find comet ISON (C/2012_S1), on its way to the sun.
