Paranal Stars and Meteor - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
A bright meteor streaks near the horizon in the extremely dark sky of Cerro Paranal Observatory in the barren Atacama Desert. Paranal is home to some of the world's leading telescopes. Operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) the Very Large Telescope (VLT) is located on Paranal, composed of four 8-meter telescopes and smaller auxiliary telescopes (that appear in this picture). Appear in the sky are the southern Milky Way, the Southern Cross, and the Large and SMall Magellanic Clouds.
