Trailing Space Station - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
In the evening twilight above this desert landscape in central Iran, as the full moon rises in the sky, the International Space Station (ISS) passes across the sky during 5 minutes, from the south west (right) to the north east (left). The digital image is made of several multi-second exposures one after the other with only a second between each shot, which caused the gaps in the trail of the fast moving ISS. The space station, home to minimum 3 astronauts at any time, is located at about 350 km above the ground, orbiting our planet each 90 minutes at speed of about 28,000 km/h. See this view in a time-lapse video displaying how the ISS crosses the sky.
