Timelapse video: A starry night begins in northern Chile. The moon shines in the constellation Sagittarius against the band of the Milky Way. From my high altitude point, about 5,100 meters above sea level on the Andes, a spectacular vista of mountains was visible toward the north, including Licancabur, a very symmetrical volcano that reaches 5920 meters and is on the middle-right in this view. Lower in the desert the lights of San Pedro de Atacama is visible. Also notable in the beginning of this time-lapse video is the conjunction of two bright planets Venus and Mercury over the west (left).
