Southern Stars and Atacama Cacti   -  By: Babak A. Tafreshi

Southern stars over the Atacama Desert, Chile. The Southern Cross and the Coalsack dark nebula appear on the lower left in the Milky Way. The red shining Carina Nebula is above them. The South Celestial Pole is on the right, empty of brighter stars. Around the pole the two diffused objects are Milky Way's neighboring satellite galaxies, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.
