Giant Telescopes - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
In a starry night of la Palma, Canary islands, telescopes at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory at 2400 meters above see level are exploring the cosmos. There are about a dozen major telescopes on this excellent observing site including the 3.6 meter TNG (Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, belongs to Italy) appeared in this image. A meteor is captured at the upper left corner, while the yellow-orange glow at the horizon is also a phenomenon in the Earth atmosphere known as the airglow, the faint natural glow of the upper atmosphere, only observable at dark locations.
