Against stunningly rich background of the Milky Way in the constellation Scutum, the star cluster M11, known as the Wild Duck Cluster, posed in the center of the image. As noted by the photographer "I'm very much interested in such views where famous deep sky objects are floating in an ocean of stars and their shape, angular size, and location are comparable to surrounding objects and brighter stars. This image is about 9 degrees wide and shows the cluster at the magnification visible through a mid-size binocular. It's like a jewel in the Scutum Star Cloud which includes most of my view." This interesting region in the band of the Milky Way is home to several beautiful Barnard's dark clouds. M11 is one of the richest (~ 3000 stars) and most compact open clusters and that's why it looks like globular clusters in low power observing while telescopic views resolve it and explain its nickname as it resembles a flying flock of ducks.
