Green Comet Meets Red Nebula   -  By: Babak A. Tafreshi

The little ghostly green object in this image is the periodic comet 102P/Hartley 2 on 2010 November 4, only few hours after the flyby of EPOXI spacecraft (previously known as Deep Impact) from only 700 km distance from the comet icy nucleus. Meanwhile the comet was about 12 million km away from the Earth. The comet is imaged here in the constellation Monoceros. The comet is a green stranger among all the red emission nebulosity in this part of the sky. Specially it makes a high contrast with the beautiful Rosette Nebula on the right.
