In a clear night of autumn stars of Cygnus, Draco, and Big and Little Dippers. shine in the sky above Lund; a city in the southern Sweden which has been a center for astronomy in the last several centuries. The city's first observatory was founded in 1670s while the second more famous one which is photographed here is from 1867, located in a cultural-heritage protected observatory park just outside the medieval city boundaries. Lund Institute for Astronomy was founded in 1749 and its office was in this building until some years ago when it moved to the university. Today the astronomy department of Lund university is a leading optical designer for giant telescopes such as the 42-meter EELT.
