From the Slopes of Himalaya - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
Watching the night sky from slopes of Himalaya near Nainital in north India. On this panoramic view winter stars of Orion and Taurus rise in the east (left), while the Summer Triangle and the brighter region of the Milky Way set at the western horizon. From this beautiful Indian hill station a layer of fog from lower plains including Delhi region (about 300 km away) is visible at western horizon where the Moon is setting in this image. The pine forest area with many small villages at the lower hills is also partly covered by evening fog. The photographer was located at terrace of the solar observatory on top of Manora Peak (1951 m) where the ARIES (Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational-Sciences) observatory is located.
