La Silla Rock Art - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
A moonlit night over mountains in the southern Atacama Desert in Chile. In the foreground of this panoramic view are ancient petroglyph (rock art) left from the Atacameños (Atacama People). Near the middle the dome of the 3.6-meter telescope of La Silla Observatory is visible on the mountain top. In the sky bright stars Alpha and Beta Centauri are on the left followed by the Southern Cross (constellation Crux). Constellation Orion and Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, are in the middle over the observatory. On the far right (east) Mars is the brightest object.
